Height: 10′ – 12′
Sun: Full to shade
Soil: Medium to moist
Nannyberry is a large shrub found on stream banks or in the understory of moist woods, often in communities with other shrubs, so it plays well with others. It can be maintained as a small tree or allowed to sucker to make a thicket. It is a great choice for screening. The foliage turns shades of red in fall, especially when grown in the sun. White flowers in May are followed by berries that turn dark purple to black, and are relished by wildlife.
Pick up of woody plants will be at the UW Arboretum the week of May 11, 2026.
